As part of the follow-up of the VI Young Americas Forum (the participation platform for young people to be actively involved in the Summits of the Americas process, the OAS General Assembly, and other high-level meetings) the YABT joins efforts with the Johns Hopkins University, through the Policy Lab session “Youth Political Engagement”, which seeks to provide a space for presenting and analyzing evidence, impact data and perspectives on the importance and mechanisms of youth political engagement; from a hemispheric and national vision.

Cecilia Vilchis

Program Manager and Young Americas Forum Coordinator
Cecilia Vilchis is a Mexican professional who holds the position of Program Manager and Coordinator of the Americas Young Americas Forum at the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT). Cecilia is leading a series of activities aimed at encouraging youth participation in decisionmaking processes around the hemisphere. Her professional experience includes serving as a member of the Youth Council of Plan International, a humanitarian and development organization that promotes children’s rights and gender equality.

Lourdes Argueta

Executive Secretary, Juventud LAC
For over a decade, Lourdes has distinguished herself in humanitarian work and in the strengthening of democracy in the Latin American and Caribbean region, and as a specialist in international development projects pertaining to social, educational, and political impact. Aside from being the Executive Secretary of Juventud LAC, she is the Founder and Director of Transparency of the political party, Nuestro Tiempo in El Salvador, and teaches history and politics at the Dr. José Matías Delgado University.

This year, she was elected to the Advisory Board of the International Republican Institute's (IRI) Generation Democracy programme; she is a member of the Global Shapers Community (a World Economic Forum initiative) and the Community of Democracies. Lourdes is an internationalist with degrees from universities in New York, Israel and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Chile.

Scott Warren

Youth Civic/Political Engagement and Leadership Specialist, USAID
Scott Warren is an experienced practitioner and scholar in youth political engagement, and a Youth Civic/Political Engagement and Leadership Specialist working at DDI in the ID Hub. He comes to USAID from the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, where he started Democracy Moves, an international network of youth activists, organizations, and scholars pushing for democratic change in their own communities. As part of this work, he was the primary author of Walking the Walk, a report that details how young people are frustrated with traditional institutional politics, but engaging with democracy in new, creative ways.

Luis Egúsquiza

Program Officer, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA)
Lawyer at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, with postgraduate studies in Political Science at the same university. He has been a university lecturer in law and applied for ethics courses at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences. He is a Program Officer at IDEA International. Previously, he was the Coordinator of Transparency Policy Reform, actively participating in the technical team that accompanied the promulgation of Peru’s first law on political parties. Subsequently, he joined the National Jury of Elections as a Political Parties Specialist in the National Directorate of Civic Education and Training and Coordinator of the Informed Vote Program. He was also part of the technical team of the Electoral Reform Coordination of that institution. He has published a number of specialized publications on electoral issues and the legislation of political parties.
