Why is it important to invest in youth citizen participation?
According to the World Economic Forum's 2021 Global Risks Report, young adults around
the world are experiencing their second major global crisis in a decade, facing challenges
to their education, employment, economic prospects, and mental health; delaying the
region's progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The Global Report on Youth and COVID-19 of the International Labor Organization (ILO),
shows how young people are suffering disproportionately the secondary effects of the
pandemic, seeing their access to education and employment restricted, where more than
90% of the population student has interrupted their education due to the closure of
schools, one in six young people has stopped working and 42% have shown a reduction in
their salaries.
More than 156 million young people live in Latin America and the Caribbean, who face
persistent structural gaps and inequalities in the development of capacities, therefore,
“Having well-trained leaders is essential to face the increasingly complex development
challenges that they face. the region ”(CAF, 2017).
The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), is a nonprofit international organization that works in cooperation with the Organization of American States (OAS), to promote social and economic development of young people around the world.
